Life 2 The Limit 2010

In April 2010, ten ordinary people will leave behind family, friends, and the comforts of home, and embark upon an extraordinary journey of self-discovery. Armed with nothing more than the contents of a five-litre backpack, they'll set off for the raw beauty of the Asia Pacific archipelago, and 30 days alone on a remote island. Except they won't be entirely alone: they'll have snakes, insects, and thick tropical jungle for company - and, most challenging of all, each other.

There are no evictions, no immunities, no surprise luxuries: just one month learning to adjust to an alien environment, to make the jungle home, and to somehow survive on the island's fresh water, and whatever food the jungle and ocean offer. Food that will need to be hunted, trapped or caught. Hunger, sleep deprivation, and a range of emotional challenges - for the ten people involved, surviving the island could be their greatest achievement ever, as they discover exactly what it means to live Life 2 the Limit.

The AquaSafeStraw is a portable, chemical free water filter ideal for anyone travelling locally and aboard. The AquaSafeStraw provides you with the confidence of knowing you can have safe drinking water anywhere in the world, from tap water, lakes, streams, on aircraft, in fact anywhere you may travel. The AquaSafeStraw will filter up to 500L of water using microfiltration, without any chemical additives like Chlorine and Iodine. It leaves no after taste and is safe for the whole family to use. Once the filtration capacity has been exhausted no more water will pass through the straw, ensuring that you cannot accidentally ingest contaminated water. The adventurers of Life 2 the Limit will bring them along!

The Hennessy Hammock is a compact, light weight shelter that provides users with a dry, bug free environment in some of the most challenging environments. Inspired by the jungle hammocks used in the Second World War, the Hennessy hammock uses modern materials and a number of design improvements significantly improve the comfort as well as reduce pack weight and volume. The hammock's innovative asymmetrical shape allows a person's head and feet to rest much lower allowing the occupant to flatten out for a more comfortable sleep. Hennessy Hammock is also a supporter of the 'Leave No Trace' principle of camping. With protective straps for fastening the hammock to trees the suspended hammock has relatively no impact on the environment when compared to a ground shelter. Best of luck to everyone at Life 2 The Limit. Take care and have fun!

In the spring of 1990 Tim Macartney-Snape had a swim in the tepid waters of India's Bay of Bengal then set off on foot across the Gangetic plain toward the distant Himalayan foothills. Four months later, after climbing alone from Base Camp and without the assistance of oxygen, he set foot once again on the highest point on earth. Tim's solo ascent of Mt. Everest was named the "Sea to Summit" expedition. Back in Australia, Tim joined forces with climbing friend, sewing enthusiast and design guru Roland Tyson to build a business that could make use of their knowledge of the outdoors to create truly ingenious, well-made but affordable outdoor equipment. They named their company Sea to Summit after Tim's expedition and the business prospered. Today the Sea to Summit brand continues to provide innovative gear and serves a growing band of outdoor enthusiasts all over the world. Sea to Summit is supporting Life 2 the Limit by providing some of the team's survival tools, including the 5 litre dry bags.

Survival Africa is providing their expertise in terms of the potential dangers on the island. Careful analysis is being done to ensure the maximum safety of the participants so possible scenarios and preventative measures as well as procedures on how to act should something happen, are very important. Survival Africa is also providing participants with basic survival skills, through practical and theoretical workshops in South Africa. Their normal programmes take people from all walks of life on survival courses in the African wild - just as the Koi-San used to live thousands of years ago.
